Summary

Dear Sewanee Purple team,

As someone who finds both solace and excitement in writing and is an incoming freshman at the university of the south, the email I received about open positions at the Sewanee student-run newspaper interested me greatly. Since eighth grade I've spent countless hours of my free time writing and I am eager to step into a structured writing environment where I can hone my craft, receive feedback, and deliver news to my peers.

Since childhood I've experienced and felt things more intensely than most around me. As I got older I learned how to channel the torrent of emotions said sensitivity left me with into creative outlets; The main one being writing. Throughout high school I persevered and excelled in my english classes, and I was even nominated twice under the subject for the Governor's Honors Program. However, for personal reasons I chose to not pursue it. I also participated in Speech and Debate for a year in the Original Oratory category. In the realm of creative writing, I entered a short story into my school's annual competition and placed in the top 10. In addition to that, I've had three pieces (two poems and said short story) of my writing featured in our school student-run magazine which I helped operate my freshman and sophomore year.

Being apart of the Sewanee Purple team is an incredible privilege and joy that if I am granted I will use to improve myself and the team I'm joining.

Thank you for reading this application and considering me for one of your positions.

Sincerely,

Anne Bost
