ARMY COMMENDATION MEDAL WITH COMBAT DEVICE

SPC Melton's exceptional initiative during both the Abby Gate Suicide Bomb Attack and North Gate Sniper Fire facilitated tactical comba casualty care to U.S. Forces. He assisted in the retrograde of personnel and property during a historically dynamic time. PFC Melton's creativity in use of medical equipment on ground was key to transporting and treating personnel at the gates. His force protection assessments contributed to the strategic emplacement of casualty evacuation positions during the JTE.

SPC Melton served with great distinction as a Combat Medic at the Hamid Karzai International Airport during a no-notice deployment in support of Operation FREEDOM'S SENTINEL and Joint Task Force 82. While serving as a Quick Reaction Force Combat Medic, he provided medical support during more than 100 activations for the security at the airport and entry control points from imminent external and internal threats. His expertise during support operations ensured the successful exfiltration of U.S. and NATO forces.
SPC Melton treated personnel and resourced medical supplies autonomously in an austere environment with minimal resources and support during Noncombatant Evacuation Operations. He was on a team of medics responsible for executing emergency services through daily partnership with Marines, Airmen, and Members from the State Department for Joint Task Force 82. They provided medical care to Soldier's conducting interior patrols, CASEVACed causalities during QRF activations, and evaluated detained personnel.

SPC Melton played a critical role in the searching, processing, safeguarding, and transportation over 120,000 Afghan refugees and 8,000 American Citizens from Hamid Karzai International Airport. In addition to providing food, water, and medical aid to civilians on HKIA, SPC Melton provided medical support to the 23D MP CO's mission critical female search team at the South Domestic Terminal and Abby Gate that safely and expeditiously searched 1,000s of women and children prior to boarding evacuation flights.
