  • Represented both the Medical Center Director and the Chief Health Administration on all administrative matters during non-standard tours of duty.
  • AOD has delegated full authority and responsibility to exercise the Medical Center Director's prerogative and the Chief, Health Administration pertaining to the lawful retention of Veterans in VAMC.
  • Process administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death, serious illness cases, elopements, suicide, assaults, death on arrival, homicide, code blue, cost recovery matters, and facility or community disasters.
  • Coordinate resolution of medical legal problems concerning the medical center.
  • Maintains continuity of functions and provides full medical administrative support during other than the normal tours of duty to clinical and administrative medical center staff; responsible for achieving management objectives and supporting decisions of mgt in carrying out duties; provide tech guidance necessary to meet procedural, legal and administrative requirement relating to care and treatment of patients, to achieve optimum use of resources.
  • Scheduling/arranging transportation for different donor programs. Some examples are Liver, MTU/Oncology Bone Marrow. LIVER, MTU/ONCOLOGY BONE MARROW.
  • Coordinates with VA Police to enforce Medical Center policies regarding access into protected areas after regular duty hours.
  • Working in conjunction with Descendent Affairs and Funeral homes to help process all administrative tasks while planning for the deceased to be taken to the morgue or to a funeral home of choice. Make appropriate arrangements with organizations such as Sight Life Eye Bank for cornea donations and autopsy requests.
  • Determines appropriateness of notifying the medical examiner of unusual deaths.
  • Contact clinical stakeholders to inform of the veteran's death, chaplain, case management & Social Work etc.
  • Follows directive VHA Directive 1907.07 and local policies on scanning.
  • Investigates unusual incidents occurring during tour involving welfare, injury, abuse of patients, loss of personal property, and infractions of VAMC rules.
  • Ensures Electronic Health Record (HER) systems are operational. Notifies appropriate office of Information Technology (OIT) staff of incidents. Is knowledgeable of downtime procedures when systems are offline and provide support to clinical staff on site.
  • Delegated full authorities of the chief, HAS for administrative activities occurring on tour.
  • Delegated full authorities to act on behalf of executive management to initiate actions dealing with any disaster situation, in accordance with hospital-wide disaster plan.

  • Approves and coordinate tests/procedures/transfers to other VA medical centers or non-VA facilities when care is not available at this medical center.
