Herrin Homes was focused on home remodels with the occasional side job like replacing deck boards, building a stair set, painting, etc.
I worked here Thursdays, Fridays and some Saturdays alongside one other employee.
My responsibilities were dependent on the job but some skills I learned are:
- painting (roller, brush, paint sprayer)
- more detailed carpentry skills such as: installing molding, custom railing & posts, retro fitting anything in older homes.
- I became more confident in using: table saw, chop saw, jig saw, paint sprayer, variety of nail guns and general carpentry tools.
Here I picked up more confidence in various carpentry skills through being soley responsible for tasks and not just assisting.
Responsibilities included:
- job site clean up
- supply pickup
- assisting in basic installations (siding, joists, rafters, decking, etc.)
During my time there we primarily built decks, porches, home editions and some parts in the construction of my Danny's house.
Skills acquired:
- using basic power tools (drill, skill saw, nail gun, etc.)
- using basic tools (hammer, speed square, tape measure, chalk line, etc.)
- how to be helpful in assisting coworkers such as anticipating what they'll need by way of material, tools, etc.

My responsibilities:
- stage setup for performance: running cables and setting up mics, instruments.
- running soundboard for sound checks and performances.
- importing slides and running the presentation software, ProPresenter.
I learned how to pre-plan and prep for a job (performance, event, service) which leads to smoother operation. I also learned how to manage chaotic situations if something was malfunctioning by staying calm and coming up with a reasonable solution.
