My first job begun at the age of thirteen. Babysitting isn’t traditional hospitality work, but it builds many of the same skills. It builds the ability to care for people, manage responsibilities, and deliver positive experiences. I continued to work in the path of hospitality starting at a trampoline park and quickly making it my way to the top as a manager. I eventually transitioned to the restaurant industry, which is where anyone can learn the richest ways to build hospitality skills. Hospitality is about creating comfort, trust, and delight for guests. Restaurant work teaches you to do this consistently, even under pressure while dedicating and personalizing every experience for every guest so they can feel valued, comfortable, and cared for.
