The Director of Osteopathic Education (DOE) serves as a key academic and clinical leader responsible for the oversight, development, and integration of osteopathic principles and practices (OPP) within the graduate medical education (GME) program. The DOE ensures that osteopathic training meets the standards set forth by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and that it supports the holistic, patient-centered philosophy of osteopathic medicine.
In this role, the DOE collaborates closely with program leadership, faculty, and clinical preceptors to incorporate osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), philosophy, and clinical reasoning into the core curriculum. This includes coordinating didactics, hands-on workshops, clinical assessments, and faculty development activities to enhance the understanding and application of osteopathic principles across all levels of training.
The DOE also serves as a mentor and advocate for osteopathic residents, ensuring their needs are met and their training is robust, compliant, and aligned with board eligibility requirements. In addition, the DOE fosters interprofessional collaboration and promotes a culture of excellence, professionalism, and continuous improvement in osteopathic medical education.
