Research

  • Assessing Urbanization Impacts on Urban Stream Water Quality in West Georgia, In progress, Measured physical water quality parameters across 22 independent subwatersheds in three Georgia counties: Muscogee, Talbot, and Harris. Compared physical water quality measurements to the percentage of urban land cover in each subwatershed. Urban land cover significantly impacted conductivity and turbidity—higher conductivity and lower turbidity were common in watersheds with more urban land cover.
  • Effects of Climate Change on Fecal Coliform in Weracoba Creek, 2024, Compared temporal E. coli data of an urban stream in Columbus, Georgia. Determined precipitation increased E. coli values in Weracoba Creek, as well as influenced other mechanisms like turbidity and discharge that could also drive changes in E. coli values.
  • Procambarus clarkii and the Effects of Astaxanthins on Pigmentation, 2023, Maintained crayfish tanks by implementing water changes and cleaning filters. Fed animals augmented and controlled diets, photographed animals, performed image analysis and statistical analysis. Presented findings at the Southeastern Society of Freshwater Sciences conference in 2023.
