The joint professorship of the Medical University of Münster, Germany, and the Centre de Recherches Médicales de Lambaréné (CERMEL), Gabon.

Lead the research group : Biomedicine and Social Sciences working with four midterm and junior scientists and several master and Ph D students candidates.


Develop a unit to produce clean, safe bacteria , viruses and parasites, conforming to Good manufactory practices for medical applications including Human challenge studies.


Develop a unit for the screening and identification of biomarkers for the diagnosis and active compounds for the treatments of tropical diseases.


Lead a framework to design, conduct, analyse, report, publish clinical trials, Human challenge studies and epidemiolocical and sociological field studies.


Establish laboratory frameworks and assays to study human innate and acquired immunity, vaccine-induced antibodies and cell-mediated immune responses in human, and assays to study replication and molecular characteristics of pathogens.

  • ADAPT VAC, Development of Broadly Protective Filovirus Vaccines. CEPI funded project starting in September 2025
  • WORMVACS2.0 (Project ID 101080784). Duration: 2023-2026. This is EU funded project entitled Innovations for vaccines against helminth infections. A multicenter project coordinated by the LUMC under the lead of Prof Ron Hokke. I am the principal investigator for CERMEL. Amount: 700000 Euro

    This is an EU-funded project. The grant signature is ongoing. The partnership includes eight institutions which will work on the "Development and validation of a quantitative point-of-care test for the measurement of severity biomarkers to improve risk stratification of fever syndromes and enhance child survival"
