Accomplishments

    2020 All-Michigan Academic Team Phi Theta Kappa March 2020

    Representatives from Michigan’s 28 community colleges met March 8th 2020 at the Kellogg Center to celebrate the achievements of the 2020 All-Michigan Academic Team. Seventy-five students were selected for the honor based on their academic achievement, community service and leadership. North Central’s honoree was Silas Hoffman. Dr. Pete Olson, vice president of Academic Affairs and Student Success, and Chuck Hayes, PTK advisor and dean of Business, Manufacturing and Technology, accompanied Hoffman. The event was hosted by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the Michigan Community College Association.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Bartow County Emergency Management Agency (E.M.A.) March 2017

CERT trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills, such as:

  • Fire safety
  • Light search and rescue
  • Team organization
  • Disaster medical operations


  • Participated in a simulated disaster scenario, where a school had been struck by an earthquake. Skills learned in class were necessary to navigate the burning building, assess fire hazards, find and medically triage the wounded, and evacuate.
  • The Bartow County Emergency Management Agency (E.M.A.) is responsible for the coordination of local emergency response plans. Further responsibilities are to identify vulnerabilities, mitigate and identify potential threats, provide public education,  plan for multi-hazard emergency situations, ensure continuity of government and business, and facilitate an effective recovery from a natural or man-made disaster. The Bartow County EMA will coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies (as well as private entities)  to develop, maintain, and implement emergency operation plans.
