C-130 Sheet metal Mechanic
Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
As a C-130 Sheet Metal Mechanic for Warner Robins Air Force Base, I am tasked with independently inspecting the aircraft and determining the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines. I work directly on the aircraft and its components, fulfilling such tasks as removal, repair, modification and installation of parts and assemblies, such as frames, stringers, bulkheads, beams, ribs, spars, skin, cowling, brackets, faring, access doors, panels and other related items. I repair cracks in aircraft skin, fabricate and fit patches to damaged areas, and determine repair detail necessary to retain or restore original strength. I fit and trim components to aircraft such as landing gear doors, control surfaces, flaps, access doors and other assemblies. I also have to troubleshoot aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers, as well as, removing, forms, fits, and installs highly stressed and double contoured skins, using hand or powered drilling and cutting tools and other metal working equipment. Furthermore, I determine shear and bearing load factors during rivet replacement. I install heads up, regular, heat treated, high shear, and blind type aircraft rivets and fasteners, using pneumatic riveters, special tools and bucking bars. Also, I remove damaged or broken fasteners and receptacles.
My other task include but not limited to:
• Advising on the production capability of contractors, government-owned facilities, and production planning.
• Evaluating systems for reliability based on statistical control charts, acceptance sampling, and proved capability analysis.
• Studying equipment needs to recommend the type and quantity needed to complete task.
• Consulting with supervisor ideas, cost data, and recommendations, as well as, observed work operations, recorded data, and analyzed the work process and its data into individual elements.
• Utilizing the Roll Orientated Consolidated Information Tool (ATROCITY) software system to ensure the proper aircraft maintenance documentation has been thoroughly reviewed and stamped by appropriate personnel.
• Assisting in planning, fact finding, analyzing, evaluating data, reaching conclusions, preparing recommendations, gaining acceptance, and installing changes.
• Planning and conducting industrial operations, work flow analysis, and developed revised standards in a timely manner.
